Moving in can be a hectic and stressful time for both you and your loved one. Here are some questions that are commonly asked by new residents:

  1. Who is my roommate? What if we do not get along?
  2. What possessions should I bring?
  3. What is the food like? What if I do not like it?
  4. How often and when can I have visitors?
  5. What staff member should I talk to if I have a problem?
  6. How much money should I keep with me?
  7. How much privacy will I have?

Tips for Helping your Loved One Become Comfortable

  • Bring decorations from your loved one’s home that are familiar.
  • Bring photos of friends, family, and the past.
  • Supply magazines, books, movies, and music.
  • Plan frequent visits.
  • Keep him/her up to date with letters and phone conversations.
  • Get to know the staff.
  • Volunteer to help in the facility’s group activities.
